13-Year-Old Cupertino Violinist to Lead Saratoga Symphony

Kevin Zhu, a scholarship student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, has already soloed at venues ranging from London's Royal Festival Hall to China's National Centre for the Performing Arts.

A local music prodigy who's already performed on international stages will lead the Saratoga Symphony in a performance Jan. 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave., Saratoga.

Under guest conductor George Yefchak will be 13-year-old Kevin Zhu, a student at Lawson Middle School in Cupertino. Zhu will perform the Violin Concerto No. 2, Op. 63, in G minor by Sergei Prokofiev according to the Symphony website.

The Symphony will also perform the Tsar Boris overture by Vasily Kalinnikov and Symphony No. 3, Op. 26 in F minor, "The Irish," by Charles Stanford.

You can see a Youtube video showing off the incredible skiills of this teenager as the 11-year-old  Zhu performs Wieniawski's Etude-Caprice Op.18 No. 4 in the 1st round of the Junior Division on the 2012 Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition.
