Love Notes Coming to Saratoga Village

The Saratoga Village Development Council encourages residents to express feelings of affection through special missives to be posted on Big Basin Way businesses' windows.

Ah, yes, l'amour ... only 36 days until Valentine's Day and already Saratoga is getting into the romantic spirit!

The Saratoga Village Development Council, the organization that exists to exclusively promote the merchants of the historic downtown along Big Basin Way, is inviting the public to write love notes to honor loved ones.

"Who do you love?" asks the flier designed by the SVDC to promote the event. It then instructs to create an original flat note, no bigger than 8½-by-11 and to drop it off at any of the businesses on Big Basin Way after Jan. 29 to be displayed on their windows until Feb. 15.

"Walk the village and enjoy the notes," the flier continues, little decorative hearts all round its border.

Brian Berg, the SVDC listmaster and owner of Berg Software Design, a Village business, explained the idea of the love notes began five years ago when former Saratoga Councilwoman Susie Nagpal became ill.

Notes expressing appreciation and care for Nagpal were posted throughout the Village and she loved coming into the town and seeing the notes on the windows of the businesses, Berg said.

Saratoga Mayor Jill Hunter said since that first time, the SVDC has sought to have notes written by Saratogans about someone or something that they love.

A number of people have planned gatherings to write the love notes, and many of the local schools have planned this as a project as well, she said.

"They bring a wonderful sense of community to the Village in the weeks leading up to Valentine's Day," Hunter said about the love notes last year.
