Saratoga's Rhee Kang Wins We Are America Art Contest

Saratoga girl is among six students who earned top prizes in the Santa Clara County Library District's We Are America art contest.

Congratulations to Saratoga student Rhee Kang who won first place in the Santa Clara County Library District's We Are America art contest.

Rhee's entry was a part of the California Reads: Searching for Democracy project, where children in grades K-8 were invited to submit original drawings, paintings, collages, or photos in our art contest, named “We Are America.”

Rhee, 12, is a seventh-grader at Joaquin Miller Middle School.

Nearly 200 children submitted original artwork for the art contest, and six were selected for the top prizes.

Rhee and the other contestants' art work will be displayed at all SCCL libraries over the next few months. Contest winners received a certificate signed by the judges, a book, and a 150-plus piece art supply kit.

Here's her winning entry:

"America is a land and welcoming nation of opportunities. Like its fireworks, the people who live in America are diverse in size, shape and color. Unlike lots of other countries, America is creative, fair, and full of choices and second chances. That is what makes America so great."
