SARATOGA HIGH SCHOOL BENEFIT CONCERT
Saratoga High School's Media Arts Program Boosters present a benefit concert at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Mc Afee Center, 20300 Herriman Ave., to support their programs and students. The concert, with the theme "Inside the music industry," will feature the Brodie Stewart Band beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission for all ages. Tickets will be available in the SHS Quad at lunch and online at brownpapertickets.com. A special donation drawing will also take place the day of the concert with tickets selling for $1 at the door. Celebrate the centennial of the historic Villa at Montalvo Arts Center, 15400 Montalvo Rd. at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20. Learn about Senator Phelan's country home, built in 1912, his colorful life and celebrated friends, the arts center as it was then and now, and more. Free for Montalvo members and a guest; $10 per person for non-members. The two-hour walking tours are led by trained volunteer docents. SOUTH BAY TEEN IDOL AUDITIONS
Auditions for the second annual South Bay Teen Idol competition are 9 a.m.-noon, Sunday, Jan. 20 at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center, 14855 Oka Rd., in Los Gatos. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. Entry fee to audition is $20. The American-Idol-style singing competition is open to teens in grades eighth through 12th in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. Entrants don’t have to be Jewish. A total of 20 teen vocalists will be selected to compete in the semi-finals in February, and then 10 will be selected to compete at the finals in April.The winner gets a $2,500 prize and money for their school. The Saratoga Symphony presents a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20 at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave., under the direction of Dr. Jason Klein. The repertory includes Symphony No. 3 in d-minor/A-major, Op. Carl Nielsen, 27, "Sinfonia espansiva," and Violin Concerto in D, Op. 77 (1878) Johannes Brahns. Lindsay Deutsch will play the violin.
