Below Market Rate Housing in Saratoga

Below Market Rate housing units discussed at June 24 Planning Commission meetign

On June 24, the Saratoga Planning Commission is sponsoring a community workshop regarding the Draft Housing Element.  Included in this plan is Below Market Rate (BMR) housing locations and numbers of units being demanded by ABAG.

Using a "cookie cutter" method, ABAG assigns numbers of BMR housing to each city.  Even if cities, such as Saratoga, are already fully developed, ABAG demands ever increasing BMR housing units.  They can condemn existing neighborhoods and commercial areas (probably even parks) to construct BMR housing units.  ABAG continually increases the numbers of such housing even when no more people or traffic can be absorbed by our schools and infrastructure.

As Saratoga residents, we must become informed and express our opinions regarding these ever increasing demands.  If we do not, our Planning Commission and City Council will assume that we approve of ABAG's demands. If say nothing, our Commission and Council will not even consider appealing the ABAG mandates.

Details of the Housing Element are available at: saratoga.ca.us/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?blobid-8293.

Please become informed and express your opinions either by e-mailing the Saratoga Planning Commission or attending the meeting.
