Gone are the days when someone would have a chainsaw in the back of their pickup and open the roadway for everyone?

A very good point. I keep a pound of lard in my pocket so that if I get my head stuck in railings I can grease my ears and slide out. Do any other readers have top tips like this ?

Another top tip for all the housewives out there: when driving to the mall always carry a stiff broom in the trunk of your car. Use it to sweep the broken glass to the side of the road every time you have a minor accident.

Readers tip: save time when crossing a one-way street by only looking in the direction of oncoming traffic.

Update: when crossing a one-way street always look in both directions in case a large, blue furniture removal truck is reversing the wrong way up the road.
