West Valley Mission Community College District Candidate Statement: Robert T. 'Bob' Owens

Incumbent trustee is hoping voters will give him two more years to represent 20,000 students who attend both colleges in Saratoga and Santa Clara.

I am a graduate of Santa Clara University with degrees in law and engineering. I served as counsel to numerous public agencies for over four decades in the areas of personnel, finance, construction and public records. I teach education law for school administrators. I also served on active duty in the United States Army.

As a Trustee of the West Valley - Mission Community College District, and as Governing Board President, I have strived to maintain realistic fiscal control and efficient personnel management. I have led Board efforts to oversee the development of Mission College into a comprehensive campus.

The college bond measure just passed will modernize facilities at Mission College. My objective is to create a vibrant learning atmosphere serving college transfer students and providing career opportunities. Success will be determined by student completion of the programs offered.

I have served on the Santa Clara Civil Service Commission, as a youth soccer coach, church lector and English language tutor and was President of the Santa Clara Swim Club,

Educated individuals are essential to our future; I will be a diligent steward of our programs and resources to provide the highest quality educational opportunities to our community. Please elect Bob Owens.
