"Her sense of civic responsibility, her involvement in Speak Up for Change Week and her tremendous contributions to things like the Senior Class bake sale exemplify her commitment to making our school a better place," wrote Los Gatos Saratoga Union High School District Superintendent Bob Mistele in her February student of the month nomination.

According to teachers, Heather plays an active role in class, frequently volunteering to answer questions. "Heather always takes the time and the opportunity to learn and improve. She is smart as a whip, kind, uber-positive, confident and a great leader. She raises the standard for what it is to be a successful, caring, well-rounded individual," Superintendent Mistele added.

Recently, Heather played a huge role in the planning and implementation of Saratoga High School's Speak Up for Change Week, going above and beyond the call of duty, he said.

"Although she was not formally in the leadership class, she presented the draft lesson plans to the teachers and voluntarily helped to coordinate assembly," he said. "Her calm, no-nonsense approach to getting the work done is always approached with a sense of excitement. She has provided great service to the school and continues to model the behavior of a true citizen."
