Thanks to SVDC, this is a great family - and pet - event.
Wonderfully cute pets, and even some…Read More not-so-common pets have been showcased by their proud and loving families over the years.
Come on out and join the fun!

One weekend and Spring Break in juvenile hall. Life's rough, eh? And if we're not allowed to know…Read More the conditions of their "house arrest," how will anyone know if they are violating them? For example, yesterday afternoon I saw an ankle bracelet on a teenager playing basketball at my gym. I would of worn sweatpants to cover it up, but that's just me. Can they go to movies, too? "Parties"?

Definitely. The boys did not act in a vacuum, but because rape culture is so rampant in our society.

I hope these Young Adults learn something from this horrible act....

Thanks for the great article. I just want to mention that EHC also works with the Housing 1000…Read More coalition and is changing its model to also focus on moving chronically homeless people into permanent housing. So your ticket price also helps fund permanent solutions.

It's really hard to be angry at the victim's parents because their daughter is dead. Also, it's not…Read More a crime to let your teenage child go to a friend's house. The crime committed against her will was criminal. The cover up to save the high school's reputation is criminal. I don't personally know either side -- the victim or the boys who did all of those horrific and unimaginable things to her -- but I'm interested in justice so it doesn't happen to someone else. I saw an interesting Op-Ed comment in the San Jose Mercury News today. It said, "I wonder if the Saratoga High School principal has a bumper sticker, "What would Joe Paterno do?"

This is a complete tragedy. I see the parents have sued the friends parents for not supervising…Read More their daughter but what about Audrie's parents. Didn't they have a responsiblity to make sure that the parents of her friend were going to be home before they allow their minor child spend the night away from home. It only takes one phone call to the friend's parents. Why were her parents not monitoring her Facebook and why did their daughter not feel like she could go to one of her parents to help her. I've never heard Audrie's parents take any responsibility for what happened to their daughter either. Will they sue each other next??

This is a note for editor Sheila Sanchez. I'm absolutely disgusted that the Saratoga News, which I…Read More normally respect and have been reading for years printed a photo of a Saratoga High School boy athlete on its cover this week! It's disgraceful. I realize it's a baseball player and he's probably a good guy but it's in poor taste and the timing is horrible. So my message to you, Sheila, is thanks for focusing on the real news and the family's press conference this week. It is the journalistic thing to do. Too see a Saratoga High athlete glorified at this time by the Saratoga News is just plain scary! I will still read the newspaper but I hope they don't do this type of thing again.

I agree please continue to tell you're story. My heart goes out to you. I was bullied, but I made it…Read More at thirty I get very sad thinking of how much more brutal & vindictive children are now-a-days. If I could teach my son anything in life I've learned from 15 to 30 , that's you can make one wrong choice that'll forever change your life, be careful of what you are choosing. Will they ever understand sometimes things get our of hand and they can never recover; the chain reaction this creates. Four families are now hurt, left clueless to what transpired between their children

To the parents and family of Audrie Pott, my heart breaks for you. To learn how very special Audrie…Read More was, to realize that her light shone so briefly, brought tears to my eyes...
I hope that time will dull the sharp edges of your grief and loss.

This is a message to the parents of the victim. I will share this tragedy with my son to educate…Read More him. I think at 12 years old he can handle this. I hope this helps in some small way. It's wonderful that you are telling your story. You will end up helping a lot of kids. You will likely save lives by going public. Thank you.

Kathy from the West Valley Clean water Program brought this to our attention yesterday; it was on…Read More either private property, or someone spraying the oaks in the fenced off area on Highway 9 at Montalvo. It was not our contractor, West Valley Spray, who actually treated our historical oaks around the City on the following nights -- these trees are not on the list. Our posting procedure is summarized as follows;
The City of Saratoga staff and contractors apply pesticides in accordance with DPR regulations, when it is necessary to control weeds and insect infestation in turf and landscape areas throughout the City. In parks and pedestrian areas, public notification occurs in the form of posted notices, detailing the dates, product, hazard, active ingredient, and re-entry period. These are placed 48 hours before application in strategic entry points to the area, and remain in place for 48 hours afterwards. In the occasional emergency application within the 48 hours, the area would be cordoned off, or the product completely watered in, until the area was safe to re-enter.

Thank you, Ms. Sanchez, for reporting on this important issue. If more residents report incidents…Read More like these, maybe the City and pest control firms will use more precaution like posting warning signs before and after a chemical application. Others in California are making their voices heard about the need to form safeguards around pesticide use:
